Other Material and Product Specifications

Aluminium, Steel & Acrylic Name Plates

Name plates are used in our Scrag Tag Dog Collars and Labelled Dog Lead. Different name plate types and specifications are follows:

  • Stainless steel name plates - made from high grade 1.5mm thick T316 stainless steel. To achieve an ultra smooth finish on the name plates, we’ve chosen to use ‘raw’ stainless steel for these tags - this means name plates can have tiny micro scratches - this is a normal feature of raw stainless steel. The plates are sourced and cut locally in Palmerston North, New Zealand and etched by us, using a specialised CO2 laser machine. Etching stainless steel results a smooth black permanent marking.
  • Aluminium name plates - made from high grade anodised aluminium. These name plates are made in the USA and etched by us, using a specialised CO2 laser machine. Etching anodised aluminium results in a bright white permanent marking.
  • Cast acrylic name plates (or tiles) - made from 3mm+ thick gloss or matt acrylic based plastic (which is riveted directly onto the collar). These acrylic tiles are cut and engraved by us. Engraving results in bright white markings.

Attaching an Acrylic Scrag Tag

Your new Acrylic Scrag Tag is made from 3mm+ thick cast acrylic plastic and paired with double cap rivets. You will need to use the double cap rivets provided to attach the tag to your collar, harness or lead.

Follow these steps to attach your tag:

  1. Use the tag as a template to mark-up where you will need to punch holes in your collar, harness or lead. We recommend use of a more rigid material such as BioThane® or leather (rather than fabric).
  2. Use an appropriate tool* to punch small holes in your collar, harness or lead - the holes will need to be ~3mm in diameter.
  3. Place the tag in place, insert the longer side of each rivet into each hole and snap the smaller ‘cap’ onto the rivet post using your fingers (this will temporarily hold the tag into place).
  4. Use an appropriate tool** to compress each rivet down (individually). The brass (black, brass, silver, antique brass) rivets have a 7mm cap and 9mm post (the neo coloured rivets have a 7mm cap and 7mm post). The tool will need to be the right size to accommodate these rivets. Do not press them down too hard or you may damage the rivet or the tag.

*Possible tools you could use to punch holes include a hand-held leather hole puncher or a lever-arm hole puncher.

**Possible tools you could use to apply/compress the double-cap rivets are a lever-arm rivet press or manual rivet application set.
